For Students

Enroll in SOC 397a: Poverty in Tucson Field Workshop

University of Arizona students can get involved with the Tucson Poverty Project by enrolling in SOC 397A: The Poverty in Tucson Field Workshop. This community-based learning course provides students with hands-on experience in researching and addressing poverty-related challenges in Southern Arizona. Through fieldwork, data analysis, and direct engagement with local communities, students gain a deeper understanding of social issues while developing essential skills in research, policy analysis, and advocacy.

Policy Research Fellowship

After completing the course, students have the opportunity to continue their involvement as Policy Research Fellows, a role sponsored by the Garcia Family Foundation. As fellows, they contribute to ongoing research and policy initiatives aimed at creating meaningful, data-driven solutions to poverty in the region. This extended engagement allows students to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts, making a lasting impact on their community while preparing for careers in social policy, law, public service, and beyond.
